Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (Spy Kids 3: Game Over on Disc 2 of the DVD release, Pay-Per-View and pay channels, as well as TV airings) is a 2003 action/adventure family film directed by Robert Rodriguez, and is the third and last film in the Spy Kids Series. It was released in the United States on July 25, 2003.

Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming) reminds the audience to take off their 3-D glasses immediately and put them on when instructed, and the movie begins.

Juni Cortez, ex-agent for the O.S.S. gets called in to help when his sister, Carmen, is in trouble. Carmen had gone into the new video game, Game Over, to shut it down before the Toymaker, creator of the game, could use it to control the minds of the kids who played it. When he arrives in the game, Juni has a rough time of it, losing most of the precious time he needed to shut down the game. He meets three beta-testers - Rez, Francis, and Arnold - who, when asked to help him get to Level 2, send him instead to the moon, and Robo Con, where they believe he'll get a "Game Over".

Once on the moon, Juni receives a life line from the O.S.S. He gets to pick someone to come into the game to help him. Eagerly, he chooses his grandfather, who had been hunting the Toymaker. After receiving "Mega Legs", his grandfather disappears, saying he'll catch up to Juni later. Meanwhile, it is revealed that the Toymaker was the one holding Carmen hostage in the game.

Juni stumbles upon Robo Con, and is set up to fight Demetra, who, in the first round, beats him badly. By the third round, Juni manages to defeat her, and is sent back to Earth. In Level 2 now, Juni meets up again with the beta-testers, who tell him he's "The Guy", a player who was said to be able to win the unbeatable Level 5 (a reference to The Matrix). Only Rez doesn't believe it, and challenges Juni to a Mega Race. After winning the race, with the help of his grandfather, Demetra joins their group, and they head off to Level 3.

On their way to Level 3, they find themselves chased by the Programmers, who, in a case of cheating, hacking, or anything related to it, send the perpetrator straight back to Level One (The Programmers being the reason that Juni found the gang on that level, because the Programmers chaught Francis cheating during the last Megarace). Demetra reveals that she knows Juni isn't the real "Guy", and shows him a map of the game she's been hiding. The Programmers find them, but are scared away by Juni's grandfather.

Juni and Arnold are pitted against each other in a fight in Level 3. Arnold refuses to let Juni win, thinking of his family who need the untold riches foretold at the end of the game. Right before Juni is defeated, Demetra tags him, and goes to fight Arnold, who quickly beats her. The Toymaker, in his cyber prison, releases Carmen back into the game. She and Juni are reunited at the beginning of Level 4.

As they travel through Level 4, Carmen tells Juni that the Toymaker is the one who put their grandfather in his wheelchair, which is why he is hunting him down. Carmen disapproves of the beta-testers tagging along, but Juni protests. He follows the map Demetra gave him, and leads them to an impassable lava gorge. After running into monsters when they try to turn back, the kids are forced to jump into the lava, which turns out to swim-able and breathable.

At the door of Level 5, Juni and Carmen's grandfather vanishes. Francis tells Rez and Arnold his suspicions of Juni being, not the "Guy", but the "Deceiver" who leads players astray in the game. Carmen tells them that there is no end of the game, and that they'll be imprisoned inside it, but don't believe it. Then the real "Guy" (Elijah Wood) appears.

He opens the door to Level 5, and goes in, instantly getting killed, and Demetra reappears, and they find out she is the Deceiver, but then helps Juni and the others get out, after Juni's grandfather shuts down the game.

Back in the real world, Rez,the cool one, Francis,the smart one,and Arnold,the tough one,are tracked down, and turn out to be nothing like they were in the game, Rez being an uncool nerd, Francis being not as smart as he was in the game, and Arnold being a short weakling. Juni's grandfather admits to letting the Toymaker out of the game, and he wreaks havoc with monsters from his game that can only be seen with the glasses used to enter the game. Everyone arrives to help take down the monsters. Juni's grandfather confronts the Toymaker, and reveals that he had only been looking for him so he could forgive him for putting him in the wheelchair. The Toymaker consents, and after destroying his last robot, becomes part of the Cortez Clan.
