Bordertown

Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen, Maya Zapata, Sônia Braga.

Ambition Lauren Adrian (Jennifer Lopez) as a reporter is to get the task to the front lines of battle in Iraq to cover this war. Unfortunately the editor, George Morgan (Martin Sheen) does not agree and send Adrian to a small town on the Mexican border.

Adrian was assigned to investigate some cases of unnatural deaths that occur in some women in the small town. Eva (Maya Zapata), one of the victims who survived, did not want to testify for fear of the perpetrators of rape and murder. But Adrian did not just want to get testimony from her course, she also wanted to catch the perpetrators although he had to be bait.

With the help of Alfonso Diaz (Antonio Banderas), an editor at a newspaper in the city, Adrian then tried to trap the perpetrators to pretend to be one of the women factory workers in the city. Unfortunately, without realizing this business makes a lot of lives at risk, including Diaz's life, the man who had become co-workers six years earlier.

Bordertown this film tries to pick a theme that is quite heavy political. Although not exactly a completely true story, but Gregory Nava, the director who also wrote this screenplay, this film based on a real incident that happened in Mexico. The characters in this film entirely fictional, but the idea of real story.

The idea picked up the story of political smells simply did not wrong but the problem in this film is precisely the lack of appropriate direction. Nava tried to combine political drama with a thriller that actually result in making the film loses its power. The combination of 'not common' Bordertown makes it even had no clear direction, a thriller or a political drama.

As a result, the fixed stars as the actor instead was wasted. The character played by Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen and Sônia Braga feels less cultivated and Nava seems to only want to highlight the character played by Jennifer Lopez. Actually there's nothing wrong with this decision but to leave no tergarap supporting characters is not a wise decision.
The idea of linking a series of murder cases with policy North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) also seem unreasonable at all. Many other factors can be triggers this chain of evil and political speculation was taken Nava also did not make this movie feels so solid.
